About

Chief editor, writer, proofreader, Mom of 2 and owner of The Word Room.

If someone told me that I would be a freelance language practitioner, I would have thought ‘Seriously?’ Yet, leaving the corporate world has set me free to do what I love … helping people.

When I’m editing in The Word Room, I’m in my happy place and I get to be finicky about the little things. I make sure that all your i’s are dotted and all your t’s are crossed so that nothing distracts from your content. It could mean the difference between “We’re going to cut and paste kids” and “We’re going to cut and paste, kids”.

I have always loved English, cherished Afrikaans and enjoyed learning new things. Now I use this to help writers, academics, students and businesses shape their writing for correctness, clarity and consistency. I can help you create material that your readers will grasp the first time round.

My initial tertiary qualification in the nineties at Stellenbosch University was the start of a continuous learning journey. I have since completed a range of courses and workshops to refine my editing skills and style. I am always looking to broaden my knowledge and work more efficiently … my professional development will always continue.
